Wolverine in the Sierras 6 March 2008

Another great example here of 1) the power of “game cams” to reveal the presence of creatures in an areas where they would otherwise go undocumented, and 2) that if you protect the habitat, a lot of times the species for which you do it will return on their own.
In this case, the wolverine could have been released as a pet (’cause so many people keep pet wolverines), it could be a remnant from a Sierra population that was never quite as extinct as folks assumed, or (my vote) it dispersed to this area from elsewhere.
Whatever the source, God bless you wolverine! I hope you continue to thrive in the Sierras.
