On a chilly (low 40s) April morning a couple of weeks ago, I surveyed a patch of crosstimbers forest west of Stillwater to look for nesting black-and-white warblers and Louisiana waterthrushes. Alas, no nests, but a pretty nice species list:
pine siskin
blue-gray gnatcatcher
summer tanager
carolina chickadee
tufted titmouse
fish crow
american crow
yellow-rumped warbler
northern cardinal
brown-headed cowbird
barred owl
blue jay
red-eyed vireo
red-breasted nuthatch
double-crested cormorant
ruby-crowned kinglet
field sparrow
red-bellied woodpecker
downy woodpecker
swainson’s thrush
orange-crowned warbler
black-and-white warbler
carolina wren
common grackle
chimney swift
northern parula
louisiana waterthrush
upland sandpiper
