Look closely – cool geese at Boomer Lake


We’ve had a couple of pelicans hanging out at Boomer Lake recently, so I’ve headed over there a couple of times to check them out. Here they are:

It’s supposed to get a lot colder next week, so these birds might skip town pretty soon.

In addition to the pelicans, waterfowl have been interesting at Boomer of late. I’ve found rafts of greater scaup and canvasbacks among the coots, and there is usually a bufflehead or two. There have also been THREE species of geese. Look closely, and check these out:

These aren’t all Canadas.

The trailing geese are Greater White-fronted Geese.

Now check these out:

It’s a typical scene of some Canada Geese at Boomer Lake, but look more closely, and you’ll see some Cackling Geese:
