Yep, that Sports Illustrated.
This story has been picked up many times over the past few months, but not yet by me.
Thanks to sharp-eyed Scott Kruitbosch from the Connecticut Audubon Society, those of us who weren’t subscribers to Sports Illustrated back in 1955 now know that birding was a sport that once made the cover! Check out the story here.

Wow, that was back when a sport was something you did for fun, not just for money. Sigh. It’s sad too, I realized during March Madness that most of my friends didn’t even like basketball, they just had money riding on the games. 🙂

We keep trying to love sport for the love of sport, but these high-profile student-athletes keep having run-ins with the law and then inking multi-million dollar contracts. If we can’t get that nonsense cleaned up, we need to at least find a way for folks to make that kind of money in our sport!
