When birding made the cover of Sports Illustrated

Yep, that Sports Illustrated.

This story has been picked up many times over the past few months, but not yet by me.

Thanks to sharp-eyed Scott Kruitbosch from the Connecticut Audubon Society, those of us who weren’t subscribers to Sports Illustrated back in 1955 now know that birding was a sport that once made the cover!  Check out the story here.

I’m ready for my endorsements now:

Wow, that was back when a sport was something you did for fun, not just for money. Sigh. It’s sad too, I realized during March Madness that most of my friends didn’t even like basketball, they just had money riding on the games. 🙂

    • We keep trying to love sport for the love of sport, but these high-profile student-athletes keep having run-ins with the law and then inking multi-million dollar contracts. If we can’t get that nonsense cleaned up, we need to at least find a way for folks to make that kind of money in our sport!
