Update June 2019:New rankings for Journal Impact Factors have just been released, and that makes for a good opportunity to update this post from 2015. There have been some big changes, notably the merger of the Cooper Ornithological Society with the American Ornithologists’ Union into the American Ornithological Society (currently meeting in Alaska which I am missing). This included a refocus and rebranding of the flagship journals of the two former societies into The Auk: Ornithological Advances and The Condor: Ornithological Applications. I alluded to this merger in the original post re: strengthening ornithology in North America. Four years on and I’m not sure everyone is happy about the merger, but it seems to have had the desired effect of increasing JIF scores for The Auk and especially The Condor, but they’re both still well below broader-based journals of ecology or conservation or zoology…
